Yellow Breasted Tit
Piropiro
Petroica
macrocephala
Most often found on Ulva working insects on the sandy
beaches, although we do see them in the heavy forest. Yellow
Breasted Tits seldom stay still for long, and they seem not
to target insects disturbed by our presence. A busy little
bird, seldom still for long.
The males have a distinctly yellowish tinge to their breast
feathers, the female is much more muted, with the breast
white.
The white bar above the beak as well as general colour
"pattern" is similar to the Stewart Island Robin, however
their black is much glossier, and the breast feathers with a
far clearer "boundary" with the black.
