Red Crowned Parakeet

Kakariki

Sails Ashore Home         Ulva Island Birds

Cyanoramphus novaezelandiae

Yellow Crowned Parakeet are somewhat smaller than their red crowned cousins and far less common on Ulva and Stewart Island. Their habits seem quite similar, and we do from time to time see them socialising

Visually the only difference is the yellow upper crown, as  the red eye bar and lower crown is red. So the bird must be seen front on to distinguish from Red Crowned.  Although when seen together the yellow is markedly smaller.
